Finishes
Smooth (as-cast), exposed aggregate, and sandblast or light blast. Specify the finish to suit the look and the exposure.
For architects & specifiers
Everything you need to write Rocky Mountain Concrete architectural precast into your project: technical data, the MasterFormat section and a guide specification, finishes, tolerances, and the standards we build to. Manufactured in Lumby, BC, with an in-house mold shop for custom work.
Specify our wall caps, post caps, sills, copings, and custom architectural units under MasterFormat Section 03 45 00 (the same numbering used by Canada's National Master Specification). We provide an editable three-part guide specification, Part 1 General, Part 2 Products, Part 3 Execution, that you can drop into your project manual and tailor.
Technical data
A proprietary architectural precast mix designed for exterior, freeze-thaw exposure, used across our wall caps, post caps, sills, and custom elements.
| Compressive strength | 35 MPa (28-day design) |
|---|---|
| Air content | 5 to 7% (air-entrained) |
| Slump (target) | 100 to 125 mm (4 to 5 in) |
| Maximum aggregate size | 20 mm |
| Exposure classification | CSA A23.1 Class C-2 (exterior, freeze-thaw) |
| Unit weight (nominal) | ~2,350 kg/m³ (normal weight) |
| Water-cementitious ratio | 0.35 to 0.40 |
| Cement | Portland Limestone Cement (CSA A3001 GUL / MSL) |
| Reinforcement | Unreinforced standard; rebar or fibre on request |
Values are design targets or typical measured values for the standard mix and do not constitute a structural specification for a specific project. 7-day and 28-day test reports available on request.
Finishes & colour
Smooth (as-cast), exposed aggregate, and sandblast or light blast. Specify the finish to suit the look and the exposure.
Pigment mixed through the body of the concrete, not painted on, in 39 standard colours plus custom matches. View the colour range.
Physical colour and finish samples before production, and mock-up pieces on request to set the approved range for your project.
Tolerances & standards
Units are manufactured to the dimensional tolerances of CSA A23.4. Project-specific tolerances are confirmed on shop drawings before production. The standard mix and our products are produced with reference to:
| CSA A23.1 / A23.2 | Concrete materials, methods of construction, and test methods |
|---|---|
| CSA A23.4 | Precast concrete, materials and construction |
| CSA G30.18 | Carbon steel bars for concrete reinforcement (where reinforced) |
| ASTM C39 | Compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens |
Sustainability
Our standard mix uses Portland Limestone Cement, which carries a lower embodied carbon than ordinary Portland cement with no loss in performance.
Manufactured in Lumby, BC. Regional production shortens transport for Western Canada projects and can support regional-materials considerations.
A dense, freeze-thaw rated mix means a long service life. The most sustainable material is the one that does not need replacing.
Working with us
Technical data sheet, the three-part guide specification, and test reports or cylinder breaks on request.
For custom and project work, we provide shop drawings showing dimensions, profiles, and any reinforcement for your review before production.
Colour and finish samples before production, and mock-up pieces on request to set the approved range.
You talk to the people who actually cast your pieces. Fast answers on sizing, finish, lead time, and feasibility.
Specifier FAQ
Our standard architectural mix is designed for 35 MPa compressive strength at 28 days, air-entrained for freeze-thaw exposure (CSA A23.1 Class C-2). Test reports and cylinder breaks are available on request.
Our products fall under MasterFormat Section 03 45 00, Precast Architectural Concrete (the same numbering used by the National Master Specification in Canada). We can provide a three-part guide specification you can edit into your project manual.
Yes. We provide a technical data sheet for the RMC Standard Mix and an editable three-part guide specification. Use the downloads on this page, or contact us and we will send the current versions.
Standard finishes are smooth (as-cast), exposed aggregate, and sandblast or light blast. Colour is integral pigment, mixed through the body of the concrete, in 39 standard colours plus custom matches. Physical samples are available before production.
Yes. Our in-house mold shop builds custom molds, so we can cast custom profiles, sizes, and one-off architectural pieces to your drawings, with shop drawings provided for review before production.
Yes. We provide physical colour and finish samples before production, and can provide mock-up or sample pieces on request to establish the approved range for a project.
