Pool coping is the row of caps that finishes the top edge of an in-ground pool, covering the pool shell or bond beam where the structure meets the deck. It protects the shell, directs splash-out away from the pool, and gives swimmers a clean, comfortable edge to grip and sit on.

Bullnose coping has a flat top that rolls into a fully rounded front edge turning down toward the water. The rounded profile is the classic choice because it is comfortable under hands and feet and has no sharp corner to chip. Our bullnose coping is 10 inches wide, 24 inches long, and 2 inches thick.

Precast coping is cast as individual pieces in a plant and set on the pool in a mortar bed, so every piece has a consistent finish and a damaged unit can be replaced on its own. Poured-in-place and cantilevered coping are formed and poured on site as part of the deck, which ties the deck to the pool edge and makes future repairs harder. Precast is the standard for renovations and for builds where a crisp, uniform edge matters.

Precast concrete gives you the same finished look at a significantly lower cost than imported travertine or granite, in a much wider range of colours, and every piece is consistent. Natural stone varies piece to piece, some stones need more sealing and maintenance, and imported material is exposed to freight costs and long lead times. Concrete coping is also easy to match years later if you extend or repair the pool.

We cast coping in a wide range of standard colours, from soft greys and buffs to rich earth tones and charcoal. Pigment is mixed through the body of the concrete rather than painted on, so a chip reveals the same colour underneath and the colour lasts outdoors for decades. For larger orders we can work toward a custom colour match.

Yes, concrete coping is widely used on salt-water pools. We recommend sealing the coping with a quality penetrating sealer and rinsing salt residue off the deck periodically, the same care you would give any concrete or stone around a salt-water pool.

Coping is sold by the piece, and pricing depends on the profile, colour, and quantity. Precast concrete is generally one of the most affordable coping materials, typically well below imported natural stone. Coping is set in a full mortar bed on top of the pool bond beam, with mortar joints between pieces and a flexible expansion joint between the coping and the pool deck so the two can move independently. Most pool builders and landscape contractors install it in a day on a typical residential pool.
